Throughout the past week in ISM, I had the opportunity to go on another mentor visit and complete my original work speech. It was a better week than I have had previously because I felt very accomplished getting to see some procedures and finally getting to share my learning with my classmates on the last day of presentations.
Colleen and I, fortunately, made it work to have a visit at Baylor Scott and White on Wednesday during the afternoon. It is not very common that there are many procedures on a slow day in the afternoon, but I lucked out and was able to see two procedures all while not missing class. I was very thankful to see these procedures because they explained to me that not everything is smooth sailing in this job. Some cases are harder than others and that is something I saw in the first surgery as Colleen had to respond to a harder situation during this case. Also, completing my original work speech was a little hard for me to do, but I felt very accomplished getting it done. Although I do not love to present in front of a lot of people, it was nice getting to share my progress with the class.
Overall, I enjoyed my week and learned a lot about myself. I learned that I have what it takes to speak in front of people confidently and trust myself to prepare for problem-solving tasks in my future career.
